‘Up-Part’ Shoes are Meant to Be Sold as Highly Customizable Kits

University of Eindhoven student Lucille Nguyen developed two ‘Up-Part’ modular sneaker prototypes as a solution that approaches sneaker culture in a more customizable, sustainable manner.

The shoes wouldn’t be sold as shoes, but as kits designed to be crafted together. You start with the sole. On top, you add the upper itself, complete with tongue, secured through lacing or straps (depending on whether it’s a Converse-esque tennis shoe or something more akin to a Birkenstock sandal

Ica & Kostika Launches with the 3D Printed Mycelium Shoe

Ica & Kostika just launched their 3D printing studio with the goal of creating fashion-forward footwear via computational design. The Mycelium Shoe is just as much sculpture as it is a shoe, an intricate work of art that’s designed to make a statement. Whether that statement is on a runway, Lady Gaga’s feet, or walking down a city street remains to be seen. While we don’t know where they’ve end up, we do know a bit about how they began.

The Mycelium Shoe benefits from the latest 3D printing has to offer. First, the future wearer downloads the app and uploads a series of photos of their feet. Their algorithm then creates a 3D sketch that allows for fit improvements before 3D printing and finishing with automotive grade technologies that make up the final structure. The result is a custom fit, wearable shoe with a unique silhouette that will surely stop traffic. If you’re brave or just intrigued, you can jump on a pair but fair warning – they are a limited edition of only five pairs. They’ll be available for pre-order later this year as part of a future collection entitled Exobiology.

Nike Gives the Air Max Plus a Blood-Stain Gradient Makeover

Although Halloween might be over, Nike is still looking to drop a new blood-stain gradient take on its popular Air Max Plus colorway.

The Nike Air Max Plus “Faded Coloring” features an off white colored mesh base dressed with a touch of faded red and accented by a transparent cage, white leather mudguard and TPU toe cap. The gradient look of the upper is continued on the torsion plate attached to the Air-assisted white midsole, which is then paired with a contrasting black rubber outsole. As usual, branding on the shoe comes in the form of Swooshes on the midfoot and tongue, along with Tuned Air badges on the heel and torsion plate.

No official release notes just yet, but stay tuned for more details when they become available.
